Overview

Fentanyl + ondansetron is a combination of two pharmaceutical agents used together, typically in perioperative or postoperative settings. Fentanyl is a potent synthetic opioid analgesic that acts primarily as an agonist at the mu-opioid receptor, providing strong pain relief and sedation. Ondansetron is a selective serotonin 5-HT3 receptor antagonist that prevents nausea and vomiting by blocking serotonin action in both the central nervous system and gastrointestinal tract. This combination may be used to manage pain (via fentanyl) while reducing the risk of opioid-induced or postoperative nausea and vomiting (via ondansetron). There are no widely recognized fixed-dose combination products containing both drugs; they are generally administered separately but concurrently for their complementary effects[2][1][6].
