Ferinject + oral iron

Ferinject + oral iron is a therapeutic regimen being evaluated in a Phase 4 clinical trial sponsored by Assistance Publique - Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP) for the treatment of celiac disease in patients with iron deficiency and intestinal villous atrophy. The regimen combines intravenous Ferinject (ferric carboxymaltose), a non-dextran iron carbohydrate complex, with standard oral iron supplementation. Ferric carboxymaltose is designed to provide a controlled release of iron to iron-binding proteins, effectively bypassing the impaired intestinal absorption characteristic of celiac disease with villous atrophy. By rapidly replenishing iron stores through the intravenous route while maintaining baseline oral intake, the therapy aims to accelerate total intestinal mucosal recovery and achieve clinical remission more effectively than oral iron alone.
