ferric polymaltose + folic acid + cyanocobalamin

This is an investigational oral hematinic regimen developed by Meir Medical Center for the preoperative management of mild anemia in patients undergoing total hip or knee replacement. The combination consists of ferric polymaltose (an iron supplement), folic acid (Vitamin B9), and sublingual vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin). The goal of the therapy is to optimize hemoglobin levels and reduce the requirement for perioperative allogeneic blood transfusions in patients who have normal baseline hematinic levels but are mildly anemic. The regimen is typically administered for 4 to 6 weeks before the scheduled surgery.
