Overview

Fexofenadine + montelukast is a fixed-dose combination of two small molecule drugs used primarily for the management of allergic conditions such as allergic rhinitis and chronic urticaria. Fexofenadine is a second-generation antihistamine that acts as an antagonist at the histamine H1 receptor, thereby reducing symptoms like sneezing, itching, runny nose, and watery eyes. Montelukast is a leukotriene receptor antagonist that blocks leukotriene D4 at the cysteinyl leukotriene receptor in the lungs and bronchial tubes; this action reduces inflammation, mucus production, airway narrowing, and other allergy-related symptoms. The combination provides broader symptom control than either agent alone and may be particularly useful in patients with both upper respiratory allergies and mild asthma or those not adequately controlled on monotherapy[3][4][5][8]. It has also been studied for use in prurigo nodularis resistant to conventional therapy[1].
