FGF1/CPP-C is a research-stage chimeric fusion protein consisting of Fibroblast Growth Factor 1 (FGF1) linked to a cell-penetrating peptide (CPP-C). It was engineered to enhance the intracellular signaling mode of FGF1 while bypassing or inhibiting the activation of cell-surface Fibroblast Growth Factor Receptors (FGFRs). This design aims to provide radioprotective effects, such as promoting crypt survival and DNA repair in the intestine following carbon ion radiotherapy, without the risk of promoting cancer malignancy typically associated with native FGF1's activation of surface FGFRs. In preclinical models, FGF1/CPP-C has demonstrated the ability to inhibit the proliferation, invasion, and migration of pancreatic carcinoma cell lines (MIAPaCa-2 and PANC-1) by internalizing FGF1 to exert suppressive intracellular effects.
