Overview

FGLM-NH2 + SSSR is an investigational ophthalmic solution composed of two synthetic tetrapeptides designed to treat persistent corneal epithelial defects (PCEDs), particularly those associated with neurotrophic keratopathy. FGLM-NH2 (Phe-Gly-Leu-Met-NH2) is a C-terminal analog of the neuropeptide substance P, while SSSR (Ser-Ser-Ser-Arg) is derived from the C-domain of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1). These peptides act synergistically to stimulate corneal epithelial cell migration and wound healing by activating the neurokinin-1 (NK-1) and IGF-1 receptor pathways, respectively. The combination has been primarily studied in clinical trials at Yamaguchi University in Japan as a treatment for intractable corneal disorders resistant to conventional therapies.
