Overview

This drug is a combination of two recombinant human growth factors, **filgrastim** (rhG-CSF) and **epoetin alfa** (rhEPO), investigated for enteral administration in preterm infants. Filgrastim stimulates granulopoiesis and gut mucosal immunity by binding to the G-CSF receptor, while epoetin alfa stimulates erythropoiesis and exerts gut trophic effects via the erythropoietin receptor. The combination was studied by Ain Shams University to prevent feeding intolerance and necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) in infants born at ≤33 weeks gestational age, aiming to mimic the trophic factors found in amniotic fluid that are lost following preterm birth.
