Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Xibeian is a veterinary topical spot-on solution developed by Hisun Animal Healthcare for the treatment and prevention of flea and tick infestations in dogs and cats. It is a fixed-dose combination of fipronil, a phenylpyrazole insecticide, and methoprene (specifically (S)-methoprene), an insect growth regulator. Fipronil acts as an antagonist of GABA-gated and glutamate-gated chloride channels in the insect nervous system, leading to hyperexcitation and death of adult parasites. Methoprene mimics juvenile hormone, binding to the methoprene-tolerant protein to disrupt the insect life cycle by preventing the development of flea eggs, larvae, and pupae. The combination provides comprehensive control of fleas at all life stages and ticks.
