Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A multi-ingredient dietary supplement combination typically formulated for ocular health and the management of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). The formulation combines omega-3 fatty acids (from fish oil), the macular carotenoids lutein and zeaxanthin, and vitamin D. Fish oil provides eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), which are essential for retinal function and exert anti-inflammatory effects. Lutein and zeaxanthin accumulate in the macula lutea, where they act as antioxidants and filter high-energy blue light to protect photoreceptor cells from oxidative damage. Vitamin D is included to support immune modulation and potentially reduce the risk of geographic atrophy. This combination is widely available over-the-counter and is often used as a nutritional intervention to support long-term visual function.
