Drug intelligence / Profile preview
fish oil + vitamin E is a combination dietary supplement consisting of fish oil, which is rich in omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) such as eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), and vitamin E, typically in the form of alpha-tocopherol. The primary rationale for this combination is the antioxidant property of vitamin E, which protects the highly unstable double bonds of omega-3 fatty acids from lipid peroxidation, thereby maintaining their structural integrity and biological activity. Clinical research has demonstrated that co-supplementation can improve lipid profiles by significantly reducing total cholesterol and LDL-C, particularly in menopausal women with dyslipidemia. Furthermore, the combination exhibits anti-inflammatory and metabolic benefits, including the downregulation of pro-inflammatory cytokines like tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) and the upregulation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR-gamma). It has also shown potential in improving clinical symptoms and antioxidant status in patients with neurodegenerative conditions such as Parkinson's disease.
