Fletcher's Laxative

Fletcher's Laxative (formerly known as Fletcher's Castoria) is an over-the-counter stimulant laxative syrup developed and marketed by The Mentholatum Company, a subsidiary of Rohto Pharmaceutical. The active ingredient is senna pod concentrate, which contains natural plant compounds called sennosides. These sennosides act as stimulant laxatives by irritating the colonic mucosa and stimulating the myenteric plexus, which increases intestinal peristalsis and bowel motility. Fletcher's specifically utilizes senna pods rather than senna leaves, as pods are considered gentler on the digestive system. The product is indicated for the relief of occasional constipation in children ages 2 and up as well as adults, typically producing a bowel movement within 6 to 12 hours. The formulation features a root beer flavor to improve palatability for pediatric use.
