Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Florbenguane (18F)** (also known as **metafluorobenzylguanidine** or **18F-MFBG**) is a positron emission tomography (PET) radiopharmaceutical developed by **Innervate Radiopharmaceuticals** (formerly Illumina Radiopharmaceuticals) under license from **Ground Fluor Pharmaceuticals**. It is a fluorine-18 labeled synthetic analog of the adrenergic neurotransmitter norepinephrine that selectively targets the **norepinephrine transporter (NET)**. Florbenguane (18F) is designed to overcome the limitations of standard iodine-123 metaiodobenzylguanidine ([123I]MIBG) SPECT imaging, such as low spatial resolution and a two-day protocol, by providing high-resolution, single-day PET imaging. It is primarily in Phase 3 development for the staging and response assessment of **neuroblastoma**, and in Phase 2 development for other neuroendocrine tumors (such as pheochromocytoma and paraganglioma) and the quantification of myocardial sympathetic innervation in cardiovascular and neurodegenerative disorders (including heart failure, Parkinson's disease, and Lewy body diseases).
