Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Amyvid (florbetapir F18) is an FDA-approved small-molecule radiopharmaceutical diagnostic agent originally developed by Avid Radiopharmaceuticals (a subsidiary of Eli Lilly). It is a positron emission tomography (PET) imaging tracer that binds with high affinity to beta-amyloid neuritic plaques in the brain, which are a hallmark pathology of Alzheimer's disease. It is indicated for brain PET imaging in cognitively impaired adults being evaluated for Alzheimer's disease and other causes of cognitive decline. Additionally, florbetapir F18 is being investigated in an exploratory clinical study (NCT04390009) sponsored by the Brain Health Alliance for entire-body PET-CT scans to detect and monitor peripheral and central demyelination and remyelination in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS), leveraging its secondary binding affinity to myelin.
