Drug intelligence / Profile preview
FLU-Q-PAN H7N9 Formulation 2 + AS03A is an investigational quadrivalent pandemic influenza vaccine candidate developed by GSK. The Q-PAN designation refers to GSK's quadrivalent pandemic platform, which is designed to provide broad protection against influenza strains with pandemic potential. Formulation 2 specifically denotes the use of a cell-culture-derived (MDCK cell line) inactivated H7N9 influenza antigen, offering a scalable alternative to traditional egg-based manufacturing. The vaccine is adjuvanted with AS03A, GSK's proprietary oil-in-water emulsion adjuvant system containing squalene, DL-α-tocopherol, and polysorbate 80. AS03A is utilized to enhance the magnitude and breadth of the immune response while enabling significant antigen dose-sparing, which is critical for rapid large-scale production during a pandemic. The vaccine targets the H7N9 avian influenza virus, a strain identified by global health authorities as a significant threat due to its high pathogenicity in humans.
