Fluad + Afluria

Fluad + Afluria refers to the concomitant administration of two distinct seasonal influenza vaccines: Fluad, an adjuvanted vaccine, and Afluria, a standard non-adjuvanted vaccine. This specific combination is being investigated by the Washington University School of Medicine in the Phase 1 clinical trial WU 345 to evaluate and compare the immune responses, particularly the germinal center reactions in lymph nodes, elicited by adjuvanted versus non-adjuvanted influenza antigens in healthy adults. Fluad contains the MF59 oil-in-water emulsion adjuvant, which is designed to enhance the magnitude and breadth of the immune response, while Afluria is a standard inactivated split-virion vaccine. The study involves administering a single dose of each vaccine intramuscularly into opposite deltoid muscles.
