Overview
Fluarix is a licensed, inactivated split-virion seasonal influenza vaccine developed by GSK. It is indicated for active immunization for the prevention of disease caused by influenza A subtype viruses and type B viruses. The vaccine works by inducing humoral antibodies against the viral hemagglutinin, which neutralize the virus and prevent its entry into host cells. In the context of Public Health England's research, Fluarix has been used in Phase IV clinical trials to investigate how Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection and associated immunosenescence affect the immune response to vaccination in older adults aged 50 to 80 years.
