Fluconazole + ibuprofen is a combination of two small molecule drugs, fluconazole and ibuprofen. Fluconazole is a triazole antifungal agent that inhibits the fungal cytochrome P450 enzyme 14α-demethylase, thereby blocking ergosterol synthesis and disrupting fungal cell membrane formation. Ibuprofen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that inhibits cyclooxygenase enzymes (COX-1 and COX-2), reducing prostaglandin synthesis to provide anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antipyretic effects. Preclinical studies have shown that ibuprofen can potentiate the antifungal activity of fluconazole against resistant strains of Candida albicans by potentially interfering with efflux pump-mediated resistance mechanisms in fungi. This combination has been investigated for its synergistic effects in treating resistant fungal infections such as candidiasis and cryptococcosis[1][4][5][6].
