Overview

**Fludeoxyglucose F 18** is a fluorine-18-labeled glucose analogue and positron-emitting radiopharmaceutical used for PET imaging. It enters cells through facilitative glucose transporters and is phosphorylated to FDG-6-phosphate, which is retained intracellularly because it is not substantially further metabolized; PET therefore visualizes regional glucose uptake and metabolism. Moffitt Cancer Center evaluated FDG-labeled autologous erythrocytes in a withdrawn early-phase study of PET-CT-based cardiac ejection-fraction monitoring in patients with breast cancer receiving neoadjuvant chemotherapy. Standard fludeoxyglucose F 18 injection is an FDA-approved intravenous PET imaging agent for oncology, cardiology, and neurology applications.
