Overview

Flumetasone + salicylic acid is a topical combination drug used primarily for the treatment of subacute to chronic inflammatory and/or dysplastic skin diseases, especially those with hyperkeratotic components such as psoriasis and eczema. The formulation typically contains flumetasone pivalate (a moderately potent synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid) and salicylic acid (a keratolytic agent). Flumetasone acts as a glucocorticoid receptor agonist, exerting anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, vasoconstrictive, immunosuppressive, and antiproliferative effects by modulating gene expression and inhibiting phospholipase A2 activity. Salicylic acid softens the stratum corneum by breaking down keratin (keratolysis), enhances penetration of the corticosteroid into the skin, has mild antiseptic properties against bacteria and fungi, restores physiological acidity to the epidermis upon contact with moisture on the skin surface, and promotes normalization of pathological cornification processes[1][6][9]. This combination is indicated for conditions such as chronic eczema (including neurodermatitis), occupational eczema, ichthyosis or chronic dyshidrosis-associated hyperkeratosis, pustulosis of palms/soles, lichen planus, cutaneous lupus erythematosus (chronic), psoriasis vulgaris/capitis/other forms with scaling or thickening[6][7].
