Overview

Fluoroestradiol (18F) is an FDA-approved radiopharmaceutical diagnostic agent used with positron emission tomography (PET) imaging. It is a fluorine-18 radiolabeled analog of 17β-estradiol that binds with high affinity to estrogen receptors (ER). By accumulating in tissues that express functional estrogen receptors, fluoroestradiol (18F) allows for the non-invasive, whole-body visualization and characterization of ER-positive lesions. It is primarily indicated as an adjunct to biopsy in patients with recurrent or metastatic breast cancer to assess ER status and guide endocrine therapy selection.
