Overview

This is a four-drug chemotherapy combination regimen consisting of fluorouracil, doxorubicin, cyclophosphamide, and paclitaxel. Each drug has a distinct mechanism of action targeting cancer cells: - Fluorouracil (5-FU) is an antimetabolite that inhibits DNA synthesis by blocking thymidylate synthase. - Doxorubicin (also known as Adriamycin) is an anthracycline antibiotic that intercalates into DNA and inhibits topoisomerase II, leading to DNA strand breaks. - Cyclophosphamide is an alkylating agent that crosslinks DNA strands, preventing cell division. - Paclitaxel is a taxane that stabilizes microtubules and prevents their depolymerization during mitosis. This combination targets cancer cells at multiple points in the cell cycle. It has been used in clinical trials for breast cancer—especially high-risk or metastatic cases—though it does not have a widely recognized acronym or standard regimen name. The individual drugs are all well-established chemotherapeutic agents commonly used in breast cancer treatment[1][3][5].
