Overview

A combination chemotherapy and endocrine therapy regimen used historically for breast cancer treatment. This regimen combines fluorouracil (an antimetabolite that interferes with DNA synthesis), melphalan (an alkylating agent), and tamoxifen (an antiestrogen/selective estrogen receptor modulator). Clinical studies have shown potential antagonistic interactions between these agents, particularly between tamoxifen and the cytotoxic effects of melphalan and fluorouracil.
