Fluoxetine + vitamin D3 is a combination of two agents: fluoxetine, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressant, and vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol), a fat-soluble secosteroid involved in calcium homeostasis and bone metabolism. Fluoxetine acts by inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin in the central nervous system, thereby increasing serotonergic activity. Vitamin D3 is converted in the body to its active form, calcitriol, which binds to the vitamin D receptor to regulate gene expression related to calcium absorption and immune function. This combination has been studied as adjunctive therapy for major depressive disorder; clinical trials suggest that adding vitamin D3 to fluoxetine may enhance antidepressant efficacy compared with fluoxetine alone[2][10][9].
