Overview

Flupentixol + melitracen is a fixed-dose combination of two psychoactive agents: flupentixol, a typical antipsychotic of the thioxanthene class, and melitracen, a tricyclic antidepressant. This combination is primarily indicated for the short-term treatment of mild to moderate mental disorders such as depression and anxiety, including psychogenic depression, depressive neurosis, psychosomatic affections with anxiety and apathy, asthenia, menopausal depression, and depression in alcoholics or drug addicts[1][4][5]. Mechanistically, flupentixol acts as an antagonist at dopamine D1 and D2 receptors in the brain—providing antipsychotic effects at higher doses but also exerting antidepressant and anxiolytic effects at low doses. Melitracen works similarly to other tricyclic antidepressants by inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin and norepinephrine at presynaptic terminals[1][7]. The synergistic action aims to improve mood regulation while reducing symptoms of anxiety. The product is intended for oral administration only. It was originally developed by Lundbeck[1].
