Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Flurbiprofen + remifentanil is a combination of two pharmaceutical agents used primarily in anesthesia and pain management. Flurbiprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that acts as a non-selective cyclooxygenase (COX) inhibitor, reducing the synthesis of prostaglandins involved in pain and inflammation[5][6]. Remifentanil is an ultra-short-acting synthetic opioid analgesic that acts as a potent agonist at the mu-opioid receptor, providing rapid-onset and easily titratable analgesia[4]. The combination has been studied for its ability to provide effective perioperative analgesia while potentially reducing opioid-induced hyperalgesia and minimizing adverse events such as respiratory depression, nausea, and vomiting. Clinical studies have shown that adding flurbiprofen to remifentanil-based anesthesia can lower the required dose of remifentanil for adequate pain control during procedures like extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL), improve hemodynamic stability, reduce postoperative pain scores, and decrease the incidence of certain side effects compared to remifentanil alone[2][9].
