Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Flurbiprofen axetil is a prodrug of flurbiprofen, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It is formulated with lipid microspheres to enhance its targeting and bioavailability. Upon administration, flurbiprofen axetil is rapidly hydrolyzed by carboxylesterase in the body to its active metabolite, flurbiprofen. Flurbiprofen then exerts its therapeutic effects by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, thereby reducing the synthesis of prostaglandins, which are key mediators of pain, inflammation, and fever. This mechanism provides potent analgesic, antipyretic, and anti-inflammatory actions.
