Overview

Fluticasone + ritonavir is a combination of two pharmaceutical agents, typically co-administered rather than formulated as a single product. Fluticasone is a synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid used primarily for its anti-inflammatory effects in the management of asthma, allergic rhinitis, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Ritonavir is an antiretroviral protease inhibitor used mainly in the treatment of HIV/AIDS and also acts as a potent inhibitor of cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4), which can significantly affect the metabolism of other drugs. When fluticasone and ritonavir are taken together, ritonavir's inhibition of CYP3A4 leads to greatly increased systemic exposure to fluticasone. This interaction can result in serious adverse effects such as Cushing's syndrome and adrenal suppression due to elevated corticosteroid levels[1][3][5]. The combination should generally be avoided unless the therapeutic benefit outweighs these risks.
