Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Flutix Duo is a fixed-dose combination nasal spray developed by Ernst Pharmacia, containing the corticosteroid fluticasone propionate and the antihistamine azelastine hydrochloride. It is primarily indicated for the symptomatic relief of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis in patients where monotherapy with either an antihistamine or a corticosteroid is considered insufficient. Fluticasone propionate works by binding to glucocorticoid receptors to inhibit the production of inflammatory mediators, while azelastine hydrochloride provides rapid relief by competitively antagonizing H1 receptors. This dual-action approach effectively addresses both the inflammatory and histamine-mediated components of allergic rhinitis, improving symptoms such as nasal congestion, rhinorrhea, and sneezing.
