Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Fluticasone propionate + fusidic acid is a combination medication used primarily for treating skin conditions with inflammation and bacterial infection. This combination contains two active ingredients: fluticasone propionate, a synthetic trifluorinated corticosteroid with potent anti-inflammatory properties, and fusidic acid, a bacteriostatic antibiotic. Fluticasone propionate works by blocking the production of inflammatory chemical messengers in the body, reducing inflammation, redness, and swelling. Fusidic acid prevents bacterial protein synthesis by inhibiting the translocation of elongation factor G (EF-G) from the ribosome, thereby stopping bacterial growth and preventing infection from spreading. This combination is particularly effective for inflammatory skin conditions complicated by secondary bacterial infections.
