Fluticasone propionate + montelukast is a fixed-dose combination of two pharmaceutical agents used primarily in the management of asthma and allergic rhinitis. Fluticasone propionate is a synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid that acts as an anti-inflammatory agent by binding to the glucocorticoid receptor, thereby reducing airway inflammation and hyperresponsiveness. Montelukast is a leukotriene receptor antagonist that blocks cysteinyl leukotriene type-1 receptors (CysLT1) on airway smooth muscle cells and other pro-inflammatory cells, inhibiting bronchoconstriction, mucus secretion, vascular permeability, and eosinophil recruitment triggered by leukotrienes. The combination has been shown to improve clinical efficacy in asthma control compared to monotherapy with either agent alone[1][7]. It is used for prophylaxis and chronic treatment of asthma as well as for relief of symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis[5][6]. Both drugs are available individually under various brand names but may be co-prescribed or formulated together in some markets.
