Overview

Fluticasone propionate + salmeterol + umeclidinium is a combination of three active pharmaceutical ingredients: fluticasone propionate (an inhaled corticosteroid), salmeterol (a long-acting beta2-adrenergic receptor agonist), and umeclidinium (a long-acting muscarinic antagonist). This triple therapy is used via inhalation for the maintenance treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and, less commonly, for asthma. The combination aims to reduce airway inflammation (fluticasone propionate), provide long-lasting bronchodilation via stimulation of beta2-adrenergic receptors (salmeterol), and further airway relaxation by antagonizing muscarinic receptors (umeclidinium). It is intended to improve lung function, reduce symptoms, and decrease the frequency of exacerbations in patients with COPD. However, in practice, the fixed triple product used is typically fluticasone furoate (not propionate), umeclidinium, and vilanterol—this specific combination of fluticasone propionate + salmeterol + umeclidinium does not correspond to any widely approved commercial product as of the current date; it may have been used in investigational or co-administered regimens.
