Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Fluticasone propionate + vilanterol is a fixed-dose combination inhalation medication used for the long-term maintenance treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), including chronic bronchitis and emphysema. It is indicated when symptoms are not adequately controlled with other asthma medications or when more than one daily medicine is required. Fluticasone propionate is an inhaled corticosteroid that reduces inflammation in the airways by inhibiting the release of inflammatory mediators from certain lung cells. Vilanterol is a long-acting beta2-adrenergic agonist (LABA) bronchodilator that relaxes airway smooth muscle, leading to bronchodilation and improved airflow. The combination improves lung function, reduces exacerbations, and helps control symptoms but does not treat acute attacks[1][2][3].
