Overview
Fluvoxamine + metformin is a combination of two repurposed drugs that has been studied for COVID-19 treatment. Fluvoxamine is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) used to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder and depression, while metformin is a medication for type 2 diabetes. This combination was investigated in clinical trials, particularly the COVID-OUT trial, as a potential treatment to prevent severe COVID-19 outcomes and Long COVID. The metformin dose used in trials was typically titrated over 6 days to 1500 mg per day for 14 days, while fluvoxamine was administered at 50 mg twice daily for 14 days.
