Fluvoxamine + risperidone is a combination of two pharmaceutical drugs used primarily in psychiatric practice, particularly for patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) who do not respond adequately to selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) monotherapy. Fluvoxamine is an SSRI that enhances serotonergic neurotransmission by inhibiting the serotonin transporter, while risperidone is an atypical antipsychotic that acts mainly as a dopamine D2 receptor antagonist and also blocks serotonin 5-HT2A receptors. The combination has been studied as an augmentation strategy in fluvoxamine-refractory OCD and has shown efficacy in improving symptoms where monotherapy was insufficient. However, co-administration can increase the risk of central nervous system depression and other side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, and impaired concentration due to pharmacodynamic interactions[1][4].
