FMP012 + GLA-SE is an investigational malaria vaccine candidate composed of the recombinant protein antigen FMP012 (a form of Plasmodium falciparum Cell-Traversal protein for Ookinetes and Sporozoites, or CelTOS) formulated with the adjuvant GLA-SE (Glucopyranosyl Lipid A-Stable Emulsion). The vaccine is designed to induce both humoral and cellular immune responses against P. falciparum sporozoites. FMP012 is produced in E. coli and targets the pre-erythrocytic stage of malaria infection by aiming to block parasite traversal in host tissues. The adjuvant GLA-SE acts as a Toll-like receptor 4 agonist to enhance immunogenicity by promoting a Th1-type immune response. This combination has been evaluated in phase 1 clinical trials for safety, immunogenicity, and protective efficacy against controlled human malaria infection[2][9][1].
