FOLFIRI + FOLFOX + bevacizumab + cetuximab

FOLFIRI + FOLFOX + bevacizumab + cetuximab refers to a sequential treatment strategy for metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) evaluated in the ITACa (Italian Trial in Advanced Colorectal Cancer) phase III trial. This strategy utilizes two primary chemotherapy regimens: FOLFIRI (a combination of 5-fluorouracil, leucovorin, and irinotecan) and FOLFOX (a combination of 5-fluorouracil, leucovorin, and oxaliplatin). These cytotoxic backbones are combined with targeted monoclonal antibodies: bevacizumab, which inhibits angiogenesis by targeting vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and cetuximab, which targets the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR). The ITACa trial, sponsored by the Istituto Romagnolo per lo Studio dei Tumori Dino Amadori IRST S.r.l. IRCCS, investigated the optimal sequencing of these agents in first- and second-line settings to improve clinical outcomes in patients with advanced colorectal cancer, particularly those with KRAS wild-type tumors.
