Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Folic acid + docosahexaenoic acid is a combination of two essential nutrients—folic acid (a synthetic form of vitamin B9) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA, an omega-3 fatty acid). This combination is primarily used as a dietary supplement to support healthy pregnancies and fetal development, prevent neural tube defects in early pregnancy, manage folate deficiency anemia, and promote brain health in both infants and adults. In clinical studies among elderly individuals with mild cognitive impairment (MCI), the combined supplementation has been shown to improve cognitive function more effectively than either nutrient alone and reduce inflammatory cytokines[1][3][9]. Mechanistically, folic acid supports DNA synthesis and cell division while DHA serves as a structural component for brain and eye tissues. The combination may also help lower blood triglyceride levels and cardiovascular risk factors[5][6][7].
