Follitropin is a recombinant form of human follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), a glycoprotein hormone produced by the anterior pituitary gland. It is used primarily to stimulate ovarian follicular development in women with primary ovarian hypogonadism and to induce spermatogenesis in men with hypogonadotropic hypogonadism. Recombinant follitropins are manufactured using DNA technology and are available as several variants (follitropin alfa, beta, delta), which differ slightly in glycosylation patterns but share the same amino acid sequence. The drug acts by binding to the Follicle-stimulating hormone receptor (FSHR) on granulosa cells of the ovary or Sertoli cells of the testis and activating cAMP-mediated signaling pathways that promote gametogenesis[1][5][8]. Primary indications include infertility treatment for anovulatory women and controlled ovarian stimulation for assisted reproductive technologies such as IVF[2][5].
