formestane + goserelin

Formestane + goserelin is a combination hormone therapy used primarily for the treatment of hormone-dependent breast cancer. This combination works through complementary mechanisms to achieve profound estrogen suppression. Formestane (4-hydroxyandrostenedione) is a steroidal aromatase inhibitor that blocks the peripheral conversion of androgens to estrogens. Goserelin is a gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonist that initially stimulates and then suppresses the release of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), leading to decreased estrogen production in the ovaries. The combination has shown particular efficacy in premenopausal women with breast cancer who have relapsed after initial goserelin treatment.
