Formycin-5'-Monophosphate (FMP) is a synthetic C-nucleoside monophosphate structurally analogous to adenosine monophosphate (AMP), but with a pyrazolopyrimidine base instead of adenine. It acts as a strong competitive inhibitor of AMP nucleosidase, binding tightly to the enzyme and preventing the hydrolysis of AMP into adenine and ribose 5-phosphate. FMP is primarily used as an experimental biochemical tool for studying nucleotide metabolism and enzyme inhibition. It is not approved for clinical use in humans or animals[1][3][8]. The compound has been studied for its structural properties and its role in elucidating mechanisms of nucleotide-processing enzymes.
