Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Fudasein (Fudasheng) is a sustained-release implant formulation of the antimetabolite fluorouracil (5-FU), developed and manufactured by Fujian Longhua Pharmaceutical. It is specifically designed for interstitial implantation during surgical procedures to provide localized, high-concentration chemotherapy for solid tumors, including esophageal cancer, gastric cancer, and colorectal cancer. As a pyrimidine analog, fluorouracil is converted intracellularly into active metabolites that covalently bind to and inhibit thymidylate synthase (TYMS), an enzyme essential for the synthesis of thymidine monophosphate and subsequent DNA replication. The sustained-release matrix allows for the continuous release of the drug at the tumor site or surgical margin for approximately 15 to 30 days, which enhances therapeutic efficacy against residual malignant cells while significantly reducing systemic toxicity compared to traditional intravenous administration.
