Overview

Furdiuren is a fixed-dose combination diuretic medication developed and marketed by the Chilean pharmaceutical company Chemopharma. It contains two active ingredients: furosemide (40 mg) and triamterene (50 mg). Furosemide is a potent loop diuretic that inhibits the Na-K-2Cl symporter (NKCC2) in the thick ascending limb of the loop of Henle, leading to increased excretion of sodium, chloride, and water. Triamterene is a potassium-sparing diuretic that blocks epithelial sodium channels (ENaC) in the distal convoluted tubule and collecting duct, which helps to conserve potassium that would otherwise be lost due to the action of the loop diuretic. This combination is indicated for the treatment of edema associated with congestive heart failure, hepatic cirrhosis, and renal disease, as well as for the management of arterial hypertension, particularly when maintaining potassium balance is a clinical priority.
