This is a combination therapy consisting of Granulocyte Colony-Stimulating Factor (G-CSF) and three chemotherapy agents (carboplatin, cyclophosphamide, and thiotepa). G-CSF is a growth factor that stimulates the bone marrow to produce neutrophils, helping to mitigate chemotherapy-induced neutropenia. When administered with chemotherapy, G-CSF significantly reduces the duration of neutropenia, decreases infection risk, and allows for more intensive chemotherapy regimens with fewer delays. The chemotherapy agents in this combination work through different mechanisms: cyclophosphamide and thiotepa are alkylating agents that interfere with DNA replication, while carboplatin is a platinum-based compound that forms DNA adducts.
