Overview

G-CSF + CD133 cells is a combination therapy involving granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) and autologous infusion of CD133-positive hematopoietic stem cells. G-CSF is administered subcutaneously to mobilize hematopoietic progenitor cells into the peripheral blood, after which leukapheresis is performed to collect these mobilized cells. The collected peripheral blood mononuclear cells are then enriched for the CD133-positive fraction, which represents a population of hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells with regenerative potential. These enriched autologous CD133+ stem cells are subsequently infused intravenously back into the patient. This approach has been investigated primarily in patients with liver cirrhosis, aiming to promote liver regeneration and improve hepatic function by leveraging both the cytokine-mediated effects of G-CSF and the regenerative capacity of infused stem/progenitor cells[1][2]. However, randomized controlled trials have not demonstrated significant clinical benefit over standard care in terms of improving liver dysfunction or fibrosis; some studies also reported increased adverse events compared to standard care[1][2].
