Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Gabapentin + oxycodone is a combination therapy used primarily for the management of moderate to severe pain, especially when pain has both neuropathic and nociceptive components. Gabapentin is an anticonvulsant that modulates nerve signaling to reduce neuropathic pain, while oxycodone is an opioid analgesic that acts on mu, kappa, and delta opioid receptors in the central nervous system to alter the perception of pain. This combination can provide enhanced analgesia compared to either drug alone and may allow for lower doses of opioids, reducing some opioid-related side effects such as nausea, vomiting, and constipation. However, concurrent use increases risks such as sedation and respiratory depression; therefore, close monitoring is required[1][2][5][8].
