Overview
Gabapentin + ramosetron is an investigational drug combination studied by Hallym University Medical Center for the prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV), particularly in patients undergoing laparoscopic gynecological surgery. Gabapentin is a small molecule that binds to the alpha-2-delta subunit of voltage-gated calcium channels; while originally developed as an anticonvulsant, it has demonstrated antiemetic properties. Ramosetron is a potent and selective serotonin 5-HT3 receptor antagonist. The combination therapy aims to utilize the synergistic effects of these two distinct mechanisms to reduce the incidence and severity of PONV more effectively than monotherapy with either agent. This protocol involves the administration of oral gabapentin prior to anesthesia induction followed by intravenous ramosetron at the end of surgery.
