Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Galto Plus is a fixed-dose combination pharmaceutical product containing **galantamine** and **memantine**, developed and marketed by Ordain Health Care (a division of Exeltis) primarily in the Indian market. It is indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe dementia of the Alzheimer's type. Galantamine is a phenanthridine alkaloid that acts as a reversible, competitive inhibitor of acetylcholinesterase and a positive allosteric modulator of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, thereby enhancing cholinergic neurotransmission. Memantine is a low-to-moderate affinity, non-competitive N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonist that regulates glutamate activity to prevent excitotoxicity. By targeting two distinct neurotransmitter pathways associated with cognitive decline, Galto Plus aims to provide synergistic benefits in managing the symptoms of Alzheimer's disease.
