galantamine + nimodipine

Galantamine + nimodipine is a combination of two approved drugs: galantamine, a reversible, competitive acetylcholinesterase inhibitor and allosteric modulator of neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, and nimodipine, a calcium channel blocker selective for cerebral circulation. This combination has been studied for the treatment of mild to moderate mixed dementia (Alzheimer's disease with cerebrovascular disease) to evaluate additive benefits on cognitive speed and quality of life. A clinical trial found the combination to be not advantageous compared to galantamine monotherapy, indicating no significant improvement in primary efficacy measures. Both drugs are small molecules, administered orally.
