Gallium Ga-68 gozetotide is a radiopharmaceutical agent used for positron emission tomography (PET) imaging of prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) positive lesions in men with prostate cancer. It combines the peptidomimetic Glu-NH-CO-NH-Lys(Ahx)-HBED-CC with the radionuclide 68Ga, enabling specific imaging of tumor cells expressing PSMA. The compound binds to cells that express PSMA, including malignant prostate cancer cells, which usually overexpress this protein. Gallium-68 is a β+ emitting radionuclide that allows for PET imaging. It was approved by the FDA in December 2020 as the first molecular-targeted drug for PET imaging of PSMA-positive lesions in men with prostate cancer.
