Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ganmao'an is a Chinese patent medicine (Traditional Chinese Medicine combination) widely used for the treatment of the common cold and influenza. It is a hybrid formulation that combines Western pharmaceutical ingredients—specifically paracetamol (acetaminophen), chlorpheniramine maleate, and caffeine—with Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal extracts such as *Baphicacanthus cusia* (Nan Ban Lan Gen), *Lonicera japonica* (Jin Yin Hua), and *Forsythia suspensa* (Lian Qiao). The paracetamol provides antipyretic and analgesic effects, chlorpheniramine acts as an antihistamine to relieve nasal congestion and sneezing, and caffeine is included to mitigate the sedative effects of the antihistamine. The herbal components are traditionally used for their heat-clearing and detoxifying properties. It is indicated for symptoms including fever, headache, cough, sore throat, and nasal discharge.
